This week in sewing blogs // Vol. 74 // Closet Core Patterns

Our first weekly wrap-up of the sewings-on in 2016! Hope you find something new to discover this week; most us us have been looking back at 2015 (myself included) but there were a few new gems as well.

Helen’s lace and wool Clare Coat is astonishingly  good. Wool lace! It’s a thing!

The Asaka Kimono was one of my favourite patterns last year. This floral version from Bimble + Pimble illustrates why.

Officially obsessed with this graphic vintage coat from Lily Safe & Co.

Roisin has a preternatural gift for uncovering the most covetable fabric. This striped border boat print is IT.

I was just thinking that I wanted to finally make the Arielle skirt from Tilly & the buttons and Dandelion Drift makes a very persuasive argument. Also how pretty are these photos?

I’ve been following Couture & Tricot’s couture denim jacket progress and we finally get the big reveal: magnificent.

Some terrific insight into the sewing industry last year, along with some predictions for 2016 from Abby Glassenberg over on Sew Mama Sew.

While you’re just making it already, listen to Did You Make That and stop ablogogising (I am so guilty of this. I’m going to try Karen!)

Possibly my favourite book from last year, I tried to savor On Such a Full Sea by Chang-Rae Lee for as long as I possibly could; such an original, innovative, beautiful, thought-provoking read.

Gillian Anderson is the best. The absolute best.

Have you seen Instagram Husband? I died. “What are you doing in here? Taking a picture of all your stuff? Yeah, this is a good moment”. The truth hurts.

My new year’s resolution is to start being a  little more ambitious with my homecooking again. While G was in France things got pretty bleak in the kitchen. BUT! Yesterday I made the most deliciously amazing meat loaf ever from this recipe; its a little involved but the pay-off is totally worth it. I’ve been pretty obsessed withe the Serious Eats website in general, and can’t wait to get this Food Lab cookbook.
