Today is a big day for us at Closet Core Patterns. It marks the first time we've released more than one pattern at once, let alone three at the same time! Our Rome Collection was inspired by my trip last year to Italy, and we designed these three patterns to be mixed and matched to create a dreamy warm weather capsule wardrobe: a classic a-line skirt meant for twirling, a chic pair of pants with a comfortable elastic waist, and a modern, boxy tee or dress with a few elevated details. Interchangeable, customizable, quick to sew and most importantly, beginner friendly, we think you'll love whipping these pieces up this summer. In addition, all three are included in with enrolment in our latest online course, designed to teach the basics of garment sewing from A to Z. I've wanted to create a beginner sewing class for a while, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so (more about this online workshop at the end of this post!) Want just the patterns? If you get all three, you can save 20% with our print and PDF pattern bundles!
I'll be sharing the design inspiration for this collection in an upcoming post, but I 'll say now that the impetus for these designs came from our audience. Again and again, we've been asked which of our patterns were best suited to beginners, and until this collection launched, we didn't have many options. We tend to focus on more intermediate designs, and I wanted to challenge myself to design garments that were easy to sew (enough that even an absolute novice could feel confident) while having enough interesting details to appeal to more advanced stitchers. This collection underwent a LOT of development as we worked our way through these two mandates, and I couldn't be prouder of the final result.
Now, let's get to know our new patterns!
FIORE SKIRT
The Fiore is the first skirt pattern we've ever released if you can believe it! Part of the reason is because I'm not a huge skirt person. I have very specific requirements, so we set out to design my platonic ideal skirt. Flared, but not too much (so it doesn't read too vintage), high-waisted (for pairing with cropped tees like our Cielo, Nettie bodysuits and tucked in tees) and loaded with options so you can create a full family tree of twirly skirts. Our Fiore meets all those criteria. View A is a super simple flared skirt with invisible back zipper (perfect for pretty, drapey prints and the ideal first sewing project). View B is my personal fave; our fresh take on a wrap skirt, with an asymmetrical design and single pocket. It feels so modern and new. Finally, we also created a button front option, with optional pockets. This is the ideal "picnic" skirt, and I'm dying to make a midi length one in a vibrantly printed rayon challis. This pattern is available in print or PDF.

PIETRA PANTS & SHORTS
Next up, we have the Pietra Pants. These are truly my dream elastic waist pants. I love the comfort and mobility of an elastic waist, but not so much the volume it creates around the tummy. These are sleek and flat fronted, with lengthening seam lines and angled inseam pockets, along with an invisible front waist stay/facing that keeps everything nice and smooth. The elastic is inserted in the back, so you have the best of both worlds: comfort AND style. These babies are so customizable! We created a wide leg in cropped or full length, a slim tapered leg, and the sweetest pair of flared shorts. I've made multiple versions and they are the sort of thing you just want to wear every day, whether in a drapey viscose or cozy linen. This pattern is available in print or PDF.

CIELO TOP & DRESS
Our Cielo Top & Dress went through the most development as we tweaked and fiddled until it was just right. I wanted to create a modern, boxy woven tee, but with enough detail and shaping to keep it fresh. This is my favourite silhouette for tops, and I love it tucked in, or cropped a bit so the proportions groove with high waisted pants. Cielo features a lovely, slightly exaggerated short sleeve with cuff, or a dramatic gathered sleeve, and can also be made as a shift dress. The dress also has the option of inseam pockets, although you can skip them if you want an unbroken line. I love our angled shoulder panel at the back, and the ability to add a facing or bias tape neckline finish depending on your preference. In drapey fabrics it's soft and romantic; in more structured wovens, it's crisp and modern.
As an added bonus, we have made this pattern available in C & D cup sizes, although these are only available digitally since we couldn't fit them on our tissue for the print edition. If you are larger busted, I would suggest purchasing the digital file since you'll have to print some additional pages in addition to the tissue that comes with the pattern. If you do purchase the print pattern and want access to the cup sizes, you can access the file in our sewing resource library (remember, you need to be signed up to our newsletter to get the password to access this member-only area of our site). Available in print or PDF.

NEW ONLINE COURSE FOR BEGINNERS!
I hear from beginners alllllll the time who want to learn to sew but don't know how to get started; our latest course Learn to Sew Clothing: From First Stitch to Finished Garment is meant to answer that question. It's the course I wish I had when I was first learning myself, and walks you through everything you need to know when you're sewing garments for the first time (best of all it includes all three of our new patterns with enrolment!) The first section focuses on the basics: discovering your sewing machine and how to operate it, setting up a sewing space with the necessary tools, working with and cutting fabric, understanding and deciphering sewing patterns, how to sew even seams and create beautiful seam finishes, pressing techniques, and even basic hand stitches. In the second section, I break down the most complicated techniques from each pattern and demonstrate them on camera, from invisible zippers, facings, buttonholes, necklines to setting in sleeves. It is truly comprehensive. We worked really hard at developing a curriculum that would set up beginners for absolute success, so they would feel confident working on their first projects and beyond. If you have wanted to learn to sew but didn't know where to get started, I promise this online workshop has you covered! From now until July 19th, it is 20% off and I think it's an absolute steal for the amount of content you get along with the patterns.
Use the code LEARNTOSEW to save 20% on this workshop until Friday, July 19 at midnight EST! Please note: The course officially starts on Tuesday, July 2nd, but if you enroll now you can download your patterns and access our downloadable resource guide.
DISCOVER OUR "LEARN TO SEW CLOTHING" COURSE
This was definitely our most epic shoot to date! We had two models this time around, and if you're interested in their sizes you'll now be able to see that information on the product listing (this is the case for all of our pattern listings now). I'd also like to give a huge thank you to the Blackbird Fabrics, The Fabric Store and Atelier Brunette for supplying us with the lovely fabrics you see in these images; we had eighteen samples to sew and it was so fun to plan everything with such gorgeous material.
Phew! A lot to talk about today, but we really hope you're excited to sew these easy, breezy pieces. Any questions for us?
