Oh fall. You're such a seducer. After sweating our faces off for months, sleeping under damp sheets with a fan aimed at the bed because we can't put an air conditioner in our bedroom window (just me?!), legs sticking to the metro seat when we're forced into the subterranean BO fog of underground transit, your crisp night-time temperatures and changing leaves feel like a budding romance.
I know it's temporary. You never stick around for long, especially up north in Montreal when we're only weeks away from our first sighting of snow. You're basically a womanizer, making us feel so good and then so quick to leave when we start getting comfortable and used to having you around. BASTARD!
I clearly have a complicated relationship with season changes.
My bittersweet love affair with autumn aside, today's uniform is brought to you once again by True Bias. In honour of Selfish Sewing Week, I carved out a few hours last week to make two more pairs of Hudson Pants, since they are basically all I want to wear now that it's getting cold again. They are such a fast and satisfying make and I've been experimenting with a few types of knits. These autumnal friends are made from a slightly silky, drapey bamboo-lycra I bought the last time I was in Toronto. They feel a little dressier than my french terry make, and I think look quite chic paired with my boucle and leather jacket, one of the only articles of clothing I purchased this year and am finally getting a chance to wear. I also caved and bought this Everlane t-shirt a few weeks ago since I've heard raves about the cut, but I'm not the biggest fan. I think the height/shape of the neckline is a little weird and looked much better on my petite sister in law, but the quality of the cotton is quite nice.
I lengthened the pattern 2 inches like I did the first time, but I think I would have been better leaving it as is. This fabric doesn't hold it's ankley volume as well as the terry. I couldn't find a matching waist cord and was too lazy to make one so settled for some grey stuff I found at my favourite notions place.
And in answer to your unasked question, yes, I live in these. I was so lucky to be interviewed by Corinne for her Sewing Affair podcast recently (should be posted soon) and we talked a bit about personal style. It's been a bit of an adjustment for me now that I work from home, and I'm really gravitating towards chic, easy knit basics that still make me feel polished when I don't see humans all day.
What are you excited to make this fall?
