Our new pattern expansion for the Kalle Shirtdress is now available in our shop, and I'm super happy to offer it to you since so many of you have asked us how to add long sleeves to this pattern. I wear my Kalles pretty much nonstop, but when the temperatures start dropping I tend to neglect all of my short sleeved tops because #forevercold. Our new sleeve expansion makes Kalle appropriate all year long and will help chase away that winter chill.
I originally planned on drafting a traditional armscye for the sleeve, but that would have required you to print and/or tape together new bodice pieces. Instead, we came up with a dropped sleeve that fits in the original arm opening. I've started seeing lots of RTW shirts like this; the fit is more casual but it's easier to sew since you don't need to set in a sleeve.
It also features a longer than normal cuff that can be folded french cuff style. I tend to wear my shirt sleeves rolled up but the folded cuff looks so chic that I actually prefer it buttoned and left long. We also included a classic tower placket; they're such a professional looking detail and contrary to what you might think, are pretty straight forward to sew (it's almost the exact same process as sewing our popover placket).
The expansion is now available in our shop; it's PDF only, and of course, you'll need the Kalle pattern to sew up the entire garment.
Hope this makes your Kalle a wardrobe staple you can wear all year round!
