The Design
We had so much fun designing and sewing our Jenna shirt and definitely didn't fully scratch our shirtmaking itch this year, so Basalt was born! We're exploring different details this time around, with a significantly different cut. Basalt is fitted through the shoulders with a set-in sleeve, with a loose fit through the bodice that is taken in along the back by release pleats. We love the way it shapes and defines the waist.
Basalt also features a small "spread" collar, a refined mens shirting detail that exposes more of the band. Basalt also has a chic invisible button placket that lends a distinctly minimalist vibe. Maybe my favourite detail is the long, french style cuff with integrated button loop - it eliminates the need for a cuff placket (yay!) and looks great flat or folded up. I also love the deep-faced hem with a split at the side seam; it gives the shirt body and structure.
