TODAY IS THE DAY!! Not only is our sister brand Core Fabrics officially launching today, but we are also introducing our latest sewing pattern! The Pauline Dress is far and away one of our prettiest designs yet, and we’re so excited to show it styled using lovely fabrics from our new fabric shop!
After a year of wearing non-stop loungewear, we wanted to create a dreamy confection of a dress, something that would be as fun to wear as it is to sew. Pauline is our answer to that problem: dramatic, romantic and positively loaded with special details. We are so thrilled to introduce you to our latest design, available in sizes 0 to 32.
As always, we love giving you serious options, and this dress transforms into widely different looks depending on what view you make. All variations start with our unique bodice design – it incorporates knife pleats at the waist and a face-framing square neckline. In the back, a keyhole opening is created with a tie closure at the neck. It’s totally unexpected AND bra friendly – we love this little moment of drama when you turn around!
We wanted this dress to be able to go anywhere. The straight skirt cut above the knee is a bit more casual, or you can add a gathered tier for some flouncy drama. Perhaps the biggest decision you’ll make is whether to go sleeveless or not. Sans sleeve with the straight skirt, Pauline is an elevated sheath. We can envision it transitioning beautifully into the fall in a gorgeous suiting for a sophisticated office look, while in cotton or linen it’s an easy-to-wear warm weather dress.
The party arrives with our gathered bishop sleeve. In two lengths finished with an elastic cuff, Pauline has major Big Sleeve Energy. With the addition of the gathered skirt tier, it’s a true showstopper of a dress, whether you choose a fun print or a bold solid.
Finally, we’ve given you the ability to add a completely optional lining, or finish with facings, sans lining. Whether you line Pauline or not, we know you’ll LOVE wearing this gorgeous design.
This launch is a bit different than usual – while you can purchase Pauline as a print or PDF in the Closet Core shop just like always, you can also purchase it in Core Fabrics. Using our “Perfect Match” feature, you can also see all the fabrics we currently have in stock for Pauline at a glance, in addition to invisible zippers and a few lovely lining options. Most fabrics have a corresponding matching thread as well, so you can get everything you need in one easy place.
We’re so excited to see how you make Pauline your own! In the meantime, if you have any questions about our new pattern or our new fabric shop, let us know in the comments!
ps. We have to give a big thank to our amazing pattern muse, Pauline of @sewuthinkucan! Queen of the statement sleeve, master of print mixing and all-around Awesome Human, we couldn’t imagine a better inspiration for this pattern than the wonderful Pauline. Read her Sewist Spotlight interview here!
