Hola! Today we're going to share some fabric options for the Fiona Sundress. Luckily there are lots of choices for this pattern; depending on the effect you want, you can use anything from a sturdy shirting to a heavier fabric like denim or corduroy. To help you on your way, we've chosen lovely fabrics in a few categories.
LINENS
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
Linen is a great choice for this pattern! It will keep you cool on hot days, and has enough structure to highlight the crisp lines of Fiona. I suggest something in the mid to heavy weight range; a lightweight handkerchief linen is simply too flimsy for this garment.
PRINTS
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
So far all of the Fionas we've made in the studio have been solid, but our testers made some gorgeous print versions and it's definitely something worth considering!
DENIM/ TWILL
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
This dress is ideal in a sturdy denim or twill (most of the inspiration we shared for this pattern were made from denim). If it's a thicker denim, the shorter skirts might be a better choice; I fear the midi would look too stiff in anything too heavy. Since denim and twill tend to be thicker, I also suggest using a lightweight cotton fabric for your band facing (and possibly the straps) to help reduce bulk.
SHIRTING
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
Based on the success of a few of our testers, we discovered Fiona also works in structured cotton shirtings (which means quilting cottons are also a go!) I would choose something with a bit of body (a lightweight lawn might not be your best bet), but chambrays, Oxford and poplin are all excellent options.
STRETCH WOVENS
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
This pattern was drafted for non-stretch wovens, but a few of our testers used stretch wovens with great success. Please note the fit may be affected due to the stretch in the fabric; you may find you need to take it in slightly to fit closer to the body.
