Fabric Inspo for the Nicks Blouse & Dress

Nicks Blouse | Plus Size Blouse Pattern

Our latest pattern, The Nicks Dress + Blouse, is inspired by none other than the Gold Dust Woman herself, Stevie Nicks. From her flowy boho dresses of the 70s to the sheer, more witchy vibes of the 80s we love her style. That said, you can do a lot with this pattern and if you're looking for a more modern take on boho, we have you covered. While we made many samples in various fabrics, we felt like we weren't totally finished showing you all the options for this release so without further ado, let's get planning!

All fabrics in this post come from our sister brand, Core Fabrics. Click on the image for the link to the exact product we're recommending!

FLOWER POWER

We love the look of ditzy florals with the tiers of this dress but you can also use a larger-scale print for a bold effect! Generally speaking, the larger the print, the less you see the design lines while a smaller print tends to read more like a solid. Lightweight viscose, silk, or rayon prints will make your skirt and sleeves swingy and swooshy!

GRAPHIC & GROOVY

We love the look of the tunic-length view in something graphic and bold. We also love the idea of trying the gathered peplum in another print for a colour-blocked effect. Choose complimentary but contrasting prints from our collection of fun viscose prints!

EMERALD CITY

We love the look of this dress in saturated solids too! Try a textured Tencel or linen-viscose. A sand-washed cupro feels like silk without the cost of silkworm labour.

SHEER MAGIC

If Stevie were wearing this pattern it would definitely be sheer. Make a softly translucent blouse or dress and pair it with a cami or slip dress (maybe our Simone?) to pay homage to the flowy and sheer boho dresses of the 70s that inspired this look.

WE LOVE LINEN!

The softness and breathability of linen is the perfect match for the blouse or dress view of Nicks. We love the drape of our Midweight Core Collection linen, and with lots of colours to choose from you will be able to find the perfect shade for your colour palette. You can also try our lightweight range of linen, or our nubby and cozy linen-viscose blend. On its own in the summer or layered up with boots and sweaters in colder weather, this is the kind of dress or blouse you will reach for again and again.

NOTIONS

Some views of Nicks call for elastic in the cuff and waistband. This 1/2" braided elastic is a perfect choice. And if you are making a view with button loops and little buttons we have all kinds of pretty ones in stock!

So which are you gonna try first??
