Deer & Doe Plantain-Tastic Tee

Happy Easter everyone! I hope this finds you with chocolate smeared all over your faces. Instagram has been hopping with photos of egg hunts and mangled, half-devoured chocolate bunnies and I've been feeling incredibly nostalgic for the Easters of my youth. Nothing is more fun than looking for candy hidden by your parents all over the house. NOTHING. If anyone wants to come over and hide sweets for me to find, I'll slip the key under the doormat.

Last year I started experimenting with t-shirt patterns. It's funny how difficult a "basic" can be to find in a store, especially if you are as picky about cut as I am. I ended up drafting a pretty great t-shirt block that I really need to make more of, but was curious when I started seeing Deer & Doe Plantains popping up everywhere a few months ago. I liked the lines of it so decided to make a short sleeved version using a drapey rayon-cotton spandex I had in the stash.

The cut is pretty much perfect. I loooooove a scoop neck (as you are going to discover in the next week or so - the pattern is almost ready!) and the flare of this t-shirt is super flattering. The pattern calls for a stable knit but I actually really like it in something drapey. It's soft and comfy and I've been wearing it at least once a week.

It's a great length too. Nothing worse than a t-shirt that rides up every time you move or raise your arms. Hoping to knock a few more of these out before the summer comes - it's a great basic. And you can't beat the price! I really love when pattern companies offer freebies - it's a nice way to discover new designers. I have a scant yard of 4ply crepe de chine I'm hoping to use for a Grainline Scout, although I'm also mighty tempted by the Tiny Pocket Tank as well. Decisions, decisions.

Hoping to get back at you this week with a preview of the new pattern. We shot the photos this weekend (dating a photographer really has its benefits!) and I'm just waiting for some final comments from pattern testers before I release it into the wild. Really excited about this one - it's a wardrobe staple I think you'll be excited to make.

Now.... to go find some chocolate!
