I'm still on holiday (well, it's sort of a working holiday but it's pretty nice to be working while hanging out in the prettiest place on earth). In the meantime, here's another Sallie make from one of you lovely ladies while I'm hopping around the Gulf Islands in British Columbia. Meet Winnie from What Would Maude Wear! I want/love everything she makes, including this gorgeous silk Asaka kimono and this cool denim jumpsuit. Speaking of jumpsuits.....
My Mum rocked many things back in the 80s, but there’s no sartorial statement she loved more than a jumpsuit. Not one to wear frocks, I guess she loved the all-in-one convenience of not having to decide which top to wear with her favourite slacks.
Year later, when the jumpsuit was well and truly out of vogue my BFF and I thought it hilarious when I popped on one of Mum’s cherished onesies to wear to an 80s theme party.
Mum was not impressed. I guess she’d always have a place in her heart for her chambray pantsuit.
Well, the joke’s on me now. I adore jumpsuits more than my mother ever did, especially when it’s a fabulous Sallie. My first Sallie was a super comfy wool fleece version in black and I am kind of obsessed with my second make: a stripy sensation in a viscose lycra blend and that drapes beautifully without clinging.
This is one of those awesome patterns that has maximum impact without being tricky and time consuming. Besides stuffing up the neckline stabilization, meaning that the back is a little bit lower than intended, I still managed to cut and sewed this up in just a couple of hours.
Highlight of my short sewing blog career so far: guest blogging for Heather Lou while she’s off drinking coconuts and recharging the ol’ sewing/designer brain.
Thanks Heather!  You can see more of my makes by visiting my blog here!
*Hot tip: when using clear elastic to stabilize neck or shoulder seams, pull the fabric a little while sewing the elastic on, that way you avoid gathering the fabric by stretching the elastic too much.
