Popping in with a quick summer project I've mean meaning to sew for a while now - a midi length Fiore skirt! Simple as can be and quick as a bunny to sew up, it's definitely become one of my favourite pieces to wear on my daily walks (which, despite Montreal's tentative re-opening is still my main semi-social out in the world activity).
Our Fiore Skirt pattern has two lengths, above and below the knee. I added about 8 inches to the below-knee version by using the lengthen/shorten lines. I love a midi length - it hits that sweet spot between ankle and knee and looks great with flats. I also added a bit more flare to the hem after checking to see how wide I could cut the piece and still fit it on my folded piece of fabric. The finished skirt has the perfect amount of flare as far as I'm concerned.
Speaking of fabric - how fun is this print?! It's a rayon challis from Workroom Social, from their collection designed by Kelli Ward of True Bias. I fell for this fabric hard when it launched - it's weirdly difficult to find big, oversized graphic prints. I'm glad I held onto it for a while because this is the perfect project - you really get a sense of the scale of the print.
I skipped the Fiore pockets and used up a handful of tortoiseshell buttons from the stash. Definitely one of those satisfying quarantine projects where you already have everything you need on hand. I like to leave a few of those buttons left undone at the bottom - makes for a swishier walking experience.
All in all this is basically my dream summer skirt, and I won't be at all surprised if I knock another one off in linen before the summer is out. I also think this length would look great in a drapey wool challis, to be paired with knee-high boots in the fall.
What are you sewing this summer?
